Hat-trick of wins for Nordic Capital at the Private Equity International Awards 2022

Private Equity International has announced that Nordic Capital has won three industry awards at the PEI Awards 2022. Following a strong year including a record fundraising and high transaction activity, Nordic Capital is honoured to have won across the following three categories: “Exit of the Year in EMEA – for its exit of The Binding Site,” “Fundraise of the Year in EMEA” and “Firm of the Year in the Nordics.”

MARCH 02 2023

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the PEI Awards, the only honours within private equity decided solely by those who work in the industry and recognising the greatest achievements of firms within the sector.

Kristoffer Melinder, Managing Partner, Nordic Capital Advisors, comments:

“We are honoured that Nordic Capital has been recognised at the PEI Awards in three different categories. Despite many macro-economic challenges in 2022, Nordic Capital had a very strong year completing the close of Nordic Capital XI at the hardcap of EUR 9.0 bn as well as eight platform deals and completing four exits, including the landmark exit of The Binding Site. I would like to express my congratulations to the hard work of the entire team at Nordic Capital and gratitude to investors, peers and advisers in the industry for recognising these achievements.”

The judges commended Nordic Capital for the following achievements:

  • Exit of the Year in EMEA

Nordic Capital won “Exit of the Year in EMEA” for its exit of The Binding Site, a global leader in specialty diagnostics. The sale of Binding Site was one of Nordic Capital’s most successful exits to date. The judges commented Nordic Capital for “Since Nordic Capital's acquisition 2011, The Binding Site grew fivefold. According to the firm, revenues grew from £40 million ($48 million; €45 million) to close to £200 million; and employees more than doubled from 500 in 2011 to more than 1,000 in 2022”.

  • Fundraise of the Year in EMEA

Nordic Capital won “Fundraise of the Year in EMEA” following the successful close of one of the largest and fastest fundraises in Europe in 2022, Nordic Capital Fund XI at its EUR 9 billion hard cap. The judges commented Nordic Capital for “Nordic Capital was recognised in this category for its 11th flagship fund, which gathered €9 billion, exceeding its €8 billion target and raising around €3 billion more than its predecessor vehicle. The fund closed in just nine months and has a 100 percent re-up rate, with some 30 percent of commitments from new LPs, according to the firm”.

  • Firm of the Year in the Nordics

Nordic Capital won “Firm of the Year in the Nordics”. The judges commended Nordic Capital: “For the second year in a row, Nordic Capital has taken the prize for Firm of the Year in the Nordic region. The firm reached a €9 billion final close for Fund XI last October, exceeding its €8 billion target for the flagship fund. Transaction highlights included the firm's acquisitions of Swedish vehicle glass repair and replacement provider Cary Group and Danish specialty insurer RiskPoint. The firm made 40 new hires over the past 12 months, including 18 to the investment team”.
