MARCH 02 2022
Private Equity International has today named Nordic Capital “Firm of the year in the Nordics” in its PEI Awards 2021.
In their 20th year, these prestigious awards recognise some of the greatest achievements in private equity and are the only ones voted on by the industry.
Nordic Capital is recognised as one of “private equity’s key players” in the Nordic region, with Nordic Capital and Nordic Capital Advisors in aggregate employing over 160 employees based in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki (as well as in London, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Jersey, New York and Seoul). The award credits Nordic Capital’s launch of its first mid-market strategy with the successful raise of Nordic Capital Evolution, which closed in June 2021 at just over EUR 1.2 billion. This followed just nine months after the EUR 6.1 bn closing in 2020 of Nordic Capital X, which focuses on larger investments.
PEI’s award also recognises the momentum behind Nordic Capital’s transactional activity across the region, with seven acquisitions of leading companies in this region completed in 2021.
These include Denmark’s LeoPharma, a leader in medical dermatology; Sweden’s Sortera, a provider of recycling and waste solutions; Qred, one of Europe’s fastest growing fin tech companies; and Norway’s boostAI, a global leader in conversational AI for Fortune 1000 companies. Nordic Capital also led the acquisition and subsequent merger of Sambla Group and Advisa, two of the leading independent online comparison sites for personal finance in the Nordic region; while its portfolio company Nordax successfully acquired Bank Norwegian to create a leading specialist bank in the Nordics.
In addition, Nordic Capital completed five full and partial exits of companies in the Nordic region in 2021, including the successful listings of Cary Group, Cint and Nordnet on Nasdaq Stockholm. All three IPOs were substantially over-subscribed, attracting strong interest from large Swedish and international institutional investors as well as the general public in Sweden.
Kristoffer Melinder, Managing Partner, Nordic Capital Advisors, said: “We are delighted for Nordic Capital to be named Nordic Firm of the Year in the prestigious PEI awards. It is particularly rewarding as these awards reflect the opinions of peers within the private equity industry. 2021 was a notable year with the closing of mid-market focused Nordic Capital Evolution, with very strong support from investors. It also saw the expansion of our team, Nordic Capital’s investments in some of the Nordic region’s most exciting companies and the completion of a number of exits. I would like to credit the entire organisation – this award recognises everyone’s great commitment and dedication over the last twelve months.”
