Nordic Capital one of the “Twenty Most Influential in ESG” | Nordic Capital

Nordic Capital’s Elin Ljung named as one of the “Twenty Most Influential in ESG” for 2025

APRIL 09 2025

Nordic Capital is pleased to announce that Elin Ljung, Operating Partner and Head of Sustainability and Communication, has been recognised in Private Equity News' list of the "Twenty Most Influential in ESG" for 2025. This list, published by a leading private equity publication, celebrates the leaders in sustainable investing in Europe.

Elin Ljung joined Nordic Capital in 2017 as Head of Sustainability and Communication. She was promoted to Operating Partner in January 2025 in recognition of her work driving sustainable transformation across the firm and her extensive experience of integrating ESG across the investment cycle. She and her team support a portfolio of 57 companies in setting sustainability agendas and measuring both impact and progress during Nordic Capital’s ownership period.

Under Elin's leadership, Nordic Capital made major strides in sustainability during 2024.

For the second consecutive year, Nordic Capital achieved top global UNIPRI scores for integrating responsible investments, putting it in the leading 10 per cent of private equity performers in sustainability globally. Nordic Capital also significantly advanced its climate agenda when its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) and by developing a decarbonisation playbook to support portfolio companies to embark on decarbonisation pathways. At the end of 2024, Nordic Capital closed its mid-market fund Evolution II, which, as an SFDR Article 8 fund, will promote social and environmental characteristics within the companies it backs.

Within the wider industry, Elin has actively promoted the role of private equity as an agent for positive societal impact and has championed sustainable issues, often speaking at public events or in the media.

Nordic Capital is committed to investing responsibly, believing that responsible business practice is essential for building world-class companies and achieving long-term success. This means backing sustainable companies to have a larger impact and helping companies in more traditional sectors to become more sustainable.

Kristoffer Melinder, Managing Partner at Nordic Capital Advisors, commented: "Elin is a strong champion for sustainable investment within both Nordic Capital and the wider private equity industry. She has built a first-class platform, helping Nordic Capital to establish ESG leadership in our sector, and I am delighted to see her achievements recognised in this prestigious list. As a firm, we are committed to putting sustainability at the heart of the investment process from sourcing and selection through to exit. For us, it is a crucial part of building more valuable world-class companies that are poised for lasting success. We are grateful to Private Equity News for casting light on this very important element of private equity investment."

The ESG leaders in this prestigious list were selected on the basis of their influence over their business area, leadership within the sector, performance over the past year and their capacity to shape their business and the industry over the year ahead, in particular with respect to ESG. The judging panel were interested in concrete actions and data-driven insights related to ESG issues, as well as the financial implications for companies and investors.  The final list includes senior leaders working in ESG-focused roles at private equity firms and institutional investors in private equity, based in Europe.
